Governor Ed Rendell spoke first at today’s news conference on Foxwoods’ plan to relocate to Center City. He began by touting the benefits of gambling tax revenues detailing that because of the popularity of Pennsylvania’s casinos, most residents are seeing lower property taxes and that the only reason the PA Convention Center is able to expand is because of revenues from gaming. He reminded us that Foxwoods’ plan to build above The Gallery Mall at 10th & Market is not a done deal and the casino developer still holds the right to build in South Philadelphia. Others speaking included Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, State Representative Dwight Evans, City Councilman Frank DiCicco. Tribal Leader Michael Thomas, and investor group rep Brian Ford.
