Gov/Sugarhouse meeting not expected until after the DNC

Thursday, August 21st, 2008 at 1:45 pm - by Matt Campbell. Filed under: Casinos.

As we await the results of today’s meeting between Governor Ed Rendell and Foxwoods, It’s Our City checked in with Sugarhouse to see when its officials will meet with the gov. Here’s what spokeswoman Leigh Whitaker told me: “We do not have a meeting date set as of yet. We are working with the Governor’s office to schedule. We anticipate that the meeting will be soon, likely after the Democratic Convention.” She says Sugarhouse, which is planning to build its casino north of Penn’s Landing, has already begun some work at the site. “We are performing obstruction removal (digging out the foundation and walls of the former sugar refinery) on the site. That activity will likely go on for a couple more weeks.”
