The Philadelphia Sketch Club
The Philadelphia Sketch Club is one of the oldest, continuously operating clubs for professional artists in the United States. Responding to the educational needs of the arts community at the time, the Club was founded in 1860 with the mission of supporting and nurturing visual artists. Distinguished members have included Thomas Eakins, N.C. Wyeth, Joseph Pennell and many more at the historic center city location, 235 S. Camac Street between 12th & 13th and Locust & Spruce Streets, Philadelphia. Currently on view: PHOTOgraphy 2008, through October 26.

The Revolutionary Germantown Festival is celebrated October 4 at 8 historic sites in Philadelphia's Germantown section from 10am-6pm with tours, programs and activities including the reenactment of the Battle of Germantown at Cliveden at noon and 3pm.


The 6th Annual Collingswood Book Festival is all day October 4, beginning at 10am with many authors including Dr. James Ball, Keith Donohue, Sal Paolantonio, NPR's Eric Weiner and more including children's authors like Dan Gutman, plus activities for the whole family... along Haddon Avenue in downtown Collingswood, NJ.


October is Mural Arts Month and Philadelphia's Mural Arts program celebrates its 25th anniversary with mural dedications, special tours, exhibits, and more throughout the month of October and for the next year.


Eastern State Penitentiary hosts its annual "Terror Behind the Walls," - the massive haunted house inside a prison - open through the weekend after Halloween on Fairmount Avenue in Philadelphia.


The annual Philadelphia Open Studio Tours is a citywide event featuring nearly 300 professional visual artists in more than 16 Philadelphia neighborhoods opening their studios to the public for the display and sale of their artwork. These tours are free and self-guided and will be October 4-5 in neighborhoods West of Broad Street and October 11-12 in neighborhoods East of Broad Street.
