A new season of Sesame Street brings new surprises
Edited by Dan Naidoff

Cookie Monster and ErnieWhen Sesame Street begins its 33rd season on Monday, February 4, the landmark children's television series turns an important page in its long history of innovation and experimentation.

The first episode unveils the most significant format alterations the program has ever experienced, including new segments, smoother transitions and a deeper focus on school readiness. The changes represent the latest phase in Sesame Street's ongoing commitment to tailor the show to its audience.

New segments, such as "Journey to Ernie," as well as established ones, will occupy the same "time slots" every day. Smoother, more predictable transitions between segments create a familiar and comfortable learning environment to help young viewers absorb more information and make it easier for them to follow the program.

Sesame Street airs weekdays at 6:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on WHYY TV12.
