 Internships are an important element in the growth of young professionals, and WHYY offers a variety of unpaid, meaningful, learning opportunities and on-the-job training experiences for junior and senior year undergraduates, and graduate and postgraduate students (within two years of graduation). Experiences range from production and newsroom opportunities across all media platforms of the region’s most important public broadcasting company, to public relations, branding & promotions and other administrative departments within WHYY.
WHYY Internships provide valuable and practical hands on experience, supervised by award-winning professionals. Interns maintain a working portfolio of their projects demonstrating progress throughout the semester, and will receive end of term review and career guidance. College credit may be granted, dependant upon previous arrangements with the student’s particular college.
How to Apply

- Cover letter discussing career goals, three internships in order of preference, computer and language skills, and any specific relevant broadcasting or media experience

- A two-three page writing sample or tear-sheets if published
- A DVD–R sample, if appropriate of any media or web based work
- A letter of recommendation from an individual who can speak to your relevant work experience, background, skills or work ethic. Letter must be received in a sealed envelope with the signature of the individual providing the reference across the flap.
- Applicants from non-native English speaking countries must provide proof of English speaking and writing competence through TOEFL minimum scores of 600PBT, 200CBT, or 100IBT.

Assist in development of WHYY Arts and Culture projects and Web Site. Research and write on various topics featured in the Experience, an ongoing TV12 series of mini-documentaries about the region's cultural community. Explore new opportunities in arts and culture production and development. Requires strong research, writing and analysis skills. Background in arts and humanities is essential.
WHYY Children's Service encompasses TV and radio programming, community outreach workshops, educational print materials, online services and Civic Space events. Intern has the opportunity to contribute to developing children's outreach workshops; assist with "In the Spirit of Family" panel discussion series; conduct research on educational topics, teacher professional development and various public events.
A great opportunity for Business Administration students to help detail the Member & Audience Services Department's entire set of processes and procedures. The candidate should have knowledge of process mapping, strong writing and interpersonal skills and experience using Visio, Word and Excel to create an accurate and detailed depiction of department procedures. Candidate also has the opportunity to make suggestions for improvement in both current and future processes.
WHYY seeks an accounting and/or finance student who has a good working knowledge of MS Excel. Duties include updating financial schedules, preparing journal entries, reconciling bank statements, analyzing general ledger account balances, and assisting other department members on special projects.
Experience all aspects of working with high-level donors in major gifts department. Administer appeals, manage data entry, conduct prospect research, and assist at special events. Must be computer proficient, with knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel and Access.
Intern will work in Branding and Promotions Department. Must have good knowledge of Macintosh platform, Adobe Creative Suite, and experience with both print design and multimedia graphics.

Assist Membership team with execution and maintenance of fundraising and marketing initiatives. Candidate will assist in creating marketing materials for fundraising initiatives, administer campaigns, research prospects, and create member relations communications across a variety of media including print, broadcast and e-communications. Strong writing and interpersonal skills are required along with a strong knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft programs. Attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision are a must.
An excellent opportunity for marketing/PR majors with experience/interest in video production. Intern reports to WHYY Senior Publicist and WHYY Content Producer. Assists with the promotion and certain production aspects of The Next Mayor project (visit www.thenextmayor.com for more information). Duties include general office work, database maintenance, web research, logging tapes, video editing and occasional assistance at special events/off-premise shoots. Interest in Philadelphia politics a must. Experience with Mac platform (iMovie, etc), Word, Excel, Powerpoint and ability to do internet research preferred.
Production Assistant will work with on-air film critic Patrick Stoner on various tasks related to FLICKS and QUICK PICS shows. Duties include transferring video, logging and summarizing tapes, cataloging interviews and assisting with other projects. Background in television or communications preferred. Candidate will work two days per week at WHYY's Delaware Broadcast Center in Wilmington.
Assisting publicists with writing press releases and pieces for WHYY's company newsletter; updating mailing lists and press clips; assisting with special events and promotional activities; and assisting publicists with organizing and maintaining TV12 and 91FM program files and weekly press mailings.
Assisting staff with radio production duties and with library research related to upcoming interview guests. RADIO TIMES is a local public affairs program produced by WHYY-FM.
Assist television producers with weekly production of 1-hour public affairs program. Should have experience/interest in working in television production and a basic understanding of video editing. Responsibilities include assisting in set-up for taping, research, logging tapes, some writing, assisting with teleprompter, and general office duties.
Assist WHYY-TV's DELAWARE TONIGHT's news and editorial staff in daily news planning and organization: present ideas for stories, conduct interviews, write scripts for broadcast, gather field video and sound for air, assemble stories; assist with live daily broadcast: collate scripts, operate teleprompter, prepare anchor for interviews; assist in miscellaneous clerical duties.
WHYY's psychology call-in program seeks interns interested in mental health, psychology, and/or communications. Responsibilities include researching background material for shows, contacting potential guests and callers for the show, and general administrative and production duties.
Assisting TV production staff with library research and related duties for assigned productions/series; assisting with operating character generator/teleprompter; logging tapes; typing and filing scripts; and assisting with general office tasks as assigned.
Assisting reporters with writing broadcast copy; attending and covering press conferences; answering phone calls and monitoring wires for breaking news; handling phone calls and setting up interviews and gathering research material and sound for broadcast. Requires excellent writing and computer skills. Some training in journalism and/or radio/TV is essential.
Wider Horizons addresses the needs and interests of those looking at the second half of life: new retirees, active elders, children of aging parents and baby boomers looking ahead. With emphasis on creative eldering and caregiving, internship involves developing resources for the Web and for print, such as researching and compiling information on health and community resources and events for a regional Resource Guide. Good writing skills , ability to do Internet research, phonework, and followup with partners of WHYY's community coalitions. WHYY will train in database use.
