The Face of Camden
Voices in the Family will give you another opportunity to listen to a
program we did on Camden.
The City of Camden, New Jersey, recently filed for bankruptcy protection
after Mayor Milton Milan declared his city financially insolvent.
Camden has been struggling for decades; the community is faced with high
unemployment and crime rates, the appearance of the city characterized by
abandoned buildings. Despite Camden's history, there are citizens who
haven't given up hope, and who work tirelessly to re-build their
community. We'll be joined by Father Doyle of the Sacred Heart Church in
Camden, who has been an active leader in the community since the late
1960's. We'll also explore the effects on poverty on a community and its
members.
